PrideHacks 2017 Recap
Pride Hacks 2017 was an opportunity for the queer tech community and allies to use their tech skills to empower our community.
70 participants attended the full day event to find solutions to more than 20 technology problems faced by 5 associations in Montreal that work with LGBTQ+ communities

AIDS Community Care Montreal
ACCM is a volunteer-based community organization working to enhance the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS, to prevent HIV transmission, and to promote community awareness and action.
Head & Hands
Head & Hands’ mission is to work with youth to promote their physical and mental well-being. The approach is preventative, inclusive, non-judgmental, and holistic, with a fundamental commitment to providing an environment that welcomes youth without discrimination.
HELEM Montreal is an NGO with no political or religious affiliation. The group aims to combat homophobia in the Lebanese Diaspora of Montreal and to support the Arabic-speaking LGBT individuals in Montreal.
Association des peres gais de Montreal
The organization's mission is to provide meeting opportunities who are both fathers and gay, and to offer them support in raising their children and facilitating parent-child activities.
Project 10 works to promote the personal, social, sexual and mental well being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, two-spirit, intersexed and questioning youth and adults 14-25.
The associations that participated sent on-site representatives to help the participants make targeted solutions, which in turn made sure that the output had impact and is useful to them.
Solutions developed on-site included:
A new app to help keep volunteers safe by using geo-localization allowing them to check in and out
Inventory management for food supplies pantry
Multiple website redesigns linked with cloud solutions to manage payments, communications and membership databases and to replace outdated webpages from the early 2000s
Recommendations to improve security of websites and social media platforms that have been the target of cyber attacks by hate groups
Troubleshooting CRM issues for multiple organizations
The event was of no cost to participants thanks to the support of enterprises such as PwC (hosting the event and cocktail), sponsorships from Google, TD, Keyrus and others, as well as the support of community partners such as MTL New Tech and Start Proud.
The event was crowned by a cocktail by StartProud and TD Bank.
